Millersburg, Pennsylvania
world traveler makes area stop
on walk for cancer awareness
By Duane Good
During the past 4 years, Polly Letofski hasn't had a job or been in a steady
relationship. She also didn't vote in the 2001 presidential election.
Forgive her, though. She's been a little busy--busy walking around the world to raise money for breast cancer research.
Letofski was in Millersburg on a recent leg of her Global Walk for Breast Cancer which she's scheduled to finish in Vail, Colo, in August 2004--five years and 15,000 miles after it first began.
Letofski set aside her global sojourn long enough to enjoy two days in Millersburg and a visit to the Cherry Blossom Festival. The Millersburg Lions Club arranged meals and lodging for her stay.
"This is a really pretty town--a very charming little town," she said during the stop.

Letofski estimated that, so far, her walk has raised $100,000 . All of the monies remain in the countries where they were raised.
Letofski's personal expenses, primarily meals and lodging, have been donated or have come from her personal savings. she also has several corporate sponsors that have donated supplies, equipment--including a new pair of sneakers every two months--and other personal care items.
Lions clubs and other service organizations throughout the world have assisted in the fund-raising process.
the petite blonde has been greeted warmly in virtually every nation where she's walked, her only personal belongings stuffed into a 40 pound pushcart that she's nicknamed "Bob."
