Stepping up to the Challenge
Polly Letofsky spent Independence Day in Frankenmuth--not for the German heritage, fireworks, Christmas decoration or chicken, but to spread the word about breast cancer awareness.
Letofsky, 41, of Vail Colo., always wanted to walk around the world and figured that she could do something useful as she traveled, so she took pledges on behalf of breast cancer research.
So far she has raised an estimated $100,000 for the San Francisco based Breast Cancer Fund.

Along the way she picked up her friend Debi M. linker, 57, of Palm Desert, Calif., who is walking with her.
Linker, a breast cancer survivor, met Letofsky in Colorado and met up with her near London, Ontario, on June 18. Linker will walk with her until Sept. 1.

Various Lions clubs sponsored her trip in India and Southeast Asia by setting up fund raising events and educational forums.
At the forums in Malaysia, event organizers translated her speeches into four languages.
