The convenience of Ludington's S.S. Badger persuaded Letofsky to stop in the city on her way to Manitowoc, Wis.  her plan for U.S. travel was to tour small-town American and the carferry was convenient to her travel plans.

Ludington is proud to host Letofsky.

"We admire her tremendously and we are happy she is coming.  She is dedicated to such a great cause," said Alberta Muzzin, director of the Ludington Area Chamber of Commerce.  "I'm sure it hasn't been easy for her and we hope she gets a good rest while she's here.

Muzzin said when Letofsky arrives she will be greeted at the marina by city officials and Mayor John Henderson will present her with a key to the city before her open forum begins.

"Polly is very energetic, even with all she is doing.  She said she wants to do a conference as soon as she gets here," said Lyda Daughtery, director of media relations for Ludington Michigan Carferry.

"It was a wonderful walk in, we went right to the Marina, the weather was beautiful, it was great," said Polly Letofsky 41, of Colorado.  Letofsky is the one-woman founder and participant in GlobalWalk, a walk around the world to raise awareness and funds toward breast cancer research.

Local businesses have welcomed Letofsky and her cause warmly.  She said a stop at Marek's Auto Parts & Service west of Ludington led to a $25 donation from the business after a conversation about the walk.  Vacation station RV Park is also providing a place for the Linkers' RV during the group's stay in Ludington and Luciano's treated them to an Italian Lunch Wednesday.

The GlobalWalkers also plan to spend some time enjoying the beach before departing  for Manitowoc, Wis. Saturday morning.  The Ludington Michigan Carferry is waiving travel fees for the trio and their RV to cross Lake Michigan on the S.S. Badger in continuation of their trip.
