Raising money for breast cancer

Pushing a customised baby buggy--"a sort of backpack on wheels"- she has worn out 12 pairs of shoes in the millions of paces which last week brought her to Urunga.  Polly raises money for breast cancer awareness and research in each country she visits, and the money stays in that country.

"Even money I find in the street - and I've found $2.75 so far in Australia -  all goes towards Breast Cancer network Australia."  In Australia, some $7,000 has been raised so far in the individual donations.

Trek aimed at increasing breast cancer awareness

"Walking around  the world has been done before, but in an effort like this and alone I don't think a woman has done it entirely on her own before.

"Initially I started with the idea of having it noted in the Guiness Book of Records, but the rules have changed since I first started out, and there are issues of safety involved as well.

"To qualify for entry into the Guiness Book of Records I would have to go to some places where it would simply not be safe for me to go."

Polly says she doesn't know how much money has been raised since she first started as others take care of this, but her goal in Australia is to raise $10,000.

"I'm nearing that amount already and I am not even half way through Australia yet."

Endurance walker strolls into Woolgoolga

...Polly says that while many people view the idea of a woman walking alone across the world as high risk, she hasn't encountered any problems.  In fact, her biggest problem has been 'mother nature.'

While  Polly is an endurance walker, and has walked across England, her current walk is certainly the biggest undertaking of her life.
